How to use the Dulux Colour of the Year 2025 in your home

Dulux have just unveiled their Colour of the Year for 2025: True Joy. This bold, vibrant shade seeks to be an “uplifting yellow that fills our homes with optimism, pride and a pop of colour”. Dulux say that True Joy “works brilliantly on its own as a statement colour or as a striking accent colour to complement other shades”.

Now I’m going to be honest here and admit that yellow is never my first choice of colour for a design scheme! However, True Joy is a beautifully uplifting colour and can add warmth and cheer to any room. You don’t need to paint an entire room yellow to feel the joyful benefits this colour can bring: here I’ve rounded up several ways you can use yellow as an accent colour to add a pop of sunshine to your home.

Entrance

Paint your front door a vibrant shade of yellow for instant curb appeal. (Image via Pinterest)

Add a yellow storage locker to hold shoes to create a practical and fun statement in your hallway. (Locker from Mustard Made)

Paint your stair treads yellow and add a sisal runner, to create a subtle but striking feature. (Image via Pinterest)

Kitchen and dining room

Introduce yellow in a subtle way with painted bar stools and pendant lamps. Yellow is a great complementary colour to blue, which is why it works so well in this kitchen. (Image via Cup of Jo)

If you're feeling bold, paint a cabinet in yellow to brighten up a dull corner, like in this kitchen by Herringbone Kitchens

Create a talking point with a yellow range cooker like this one from Bertazzoni. Or add a splash of yellow with smaller appliances like a kettle or toaster.

Living room

A yellow sofa and curtains, contrasted with a muted blue on the walls, makes for a warm and inviting space. (Joules Hallaton sofa from DFS)

If a yellow sofa is too bold, add subtle pops of yellow with plain and patterned cushions. Great if you have a plain grey sofa that needs brightening up. (Image via Pinterest)

Add yellow through accessories, such as this playful bobbin floor lamp from Graham and Green.

Bathroom

These geometric floor tiles from Claybrook are great way to add a touch of yellow to a bathroom.

Bedrooms

A yellow bed like this one from Joules, paired with white bed linen and accents of green, creates a calming scheme.

Add softer touches of yellow through patterned bedding, such as gingham or florals, whilst keeping the rest of your décor neutral. (Image via Piglet In Bed)
